{"id":1758,"date":"2013-01-09T17:13:27","date_gmt":"2013-01-10T00:13:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.newearthcommunity.org\/?page_id=1758"},"modified":"2021-12-20T18:21:38","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T01:21:38","slug":"was-yeshua-jesus-really-born-on-christmas-day","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.newearthcommunity.org\/?page_id=1758","title":{"rendered":"V: 2 b1: Was Yeshua (Jesus) really born on Christmas Day?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #984806;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders.\u00a0 And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #984806;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Isaiah 9:6)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #303bb3;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Shalom and Happy Holidays during this season of remembering Yeshua&#8217;s birth,<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\nMany Christians around the world have already set up their Christmas trees, bought their presents to give family and friends, and depending on which denomination they are a part of, will be <\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>celebrating the prophetic fulfillment of the birth of the Jewish Messiah in Bethlehem this Tuesday. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Micah 5:2)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\nArmenian Apostolic and Eastern Orthodox Christians, unlike Protestants, do not celebrate the birth of Yeshua HaMashiach on December 25th, due to differences between the Armenian, Julian and Gregorian calendars.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>The Tanakh (Jewish Scriptures), however, doesn&#8217;t identify the month in which the Messiah would be born, nor does the Brit Chadashah (New Testament) identify the exact date of His birth.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\nScripture does give us an indication of the time of year.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.\u00a0 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Luke 2:10-11)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/261268\/d752556c91f6a5295f68b48a90737465\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" name=\"graphics1\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/> <span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Isaiah 9:6<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #9e0f0f;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>When was the Messiah Born?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Luke 2:8)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Although Christmas is a well-established Christian tradition, Bible scholars know that December 25th is not the true date of Yeshua&#8217;s birth.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\nWinter in Israel is generally too cold at night to be out shepherding flocks, and yet at the time of Yeshua&#8217;s birth, the shepherds were in the fields watching over their flocks at night.<br \/>\nThis December in Jerusalem, the temperature has been averaging about 60 degrees Fahrenheit, with the temperature dropping below 50 at night.<br \/>\nWhile the men in our ministry can get away with wearing short sleeve shirts for part of the day, around 4 p.m. as the sun goes down, it becomes quite cold, and they need to put on a warm jacket.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/261268\/c5eb716dc4f25f446ce8050967bf88fe\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" name=\"graphics2\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/> <span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #422104;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">The fact that shepherds were in the field keeping watch over their sheep at <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #422104;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">night when Yeshua was born likely indicates that He was not born in the<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #422104;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">winter.\u00a0 Some scholars even suggest the sheep were brought under cover between November and March.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\nAnother point to consider when trying to determine the time of year that Yeshua (Jesus) was born is the fact that winter in Israel is not a logical time to take a census because of the cold and rain. Occasionally, it even snows in Jerusalem.\u00a0 So the fact that Yoseph (Joseph) and Miriam (Mary) had gone to Beit Lechem (Bethlehem) to register for a census is a good indication that they were traveling in a warmer, drier season <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Luke 2:1-5)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>When they arrived, Jerusalem and Bethlehem were so crowded that no accommodations were available at the inn.\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Such crowding would have been more typical during one of the three\u00a0 pilgrimage feasts: Pesach (Passover), Shavuot (Pentecost) or Sukkot (Tabernacles\/Booths).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son.\u00a0 She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Luke 2:6-7)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Likely, Yeshua was born at the end of the harvest, during the Biblical holiday of Sukkot, fulfilling the Scripture that one day the Lord would tabernacle with His people.\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>(Ezekiel 37:27)<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Look!\u00a0 God&#8217;s dwelling is now among the people, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God.<\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Revelation 21:3)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #9e0f0f;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Birthdays and the Culture of the Time<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Ecclesiastes 7:8)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Yeshua was born into a completely Jewish, Hebraic culture where the date of ones death was remembered and observed rather than the date of ones birth.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0 This could explain why we are certain of the date of His death (Passover), but not clear on the date of His birth.<br \/>\nHow, then, did December 25th come to be celebrated as the day of Yeshua&#8217;s birth, and what is the origin of the festival of Christmas?<br \/>\nIt was certainly not included in the early celebrations of the Christian church.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The Catholic Encyclopedia explains that <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Christmas was not among the earliest festivals of the Church.\u00a0 Irenaeus and Tertullian [early Church fathers] do not show it on their list of feasts.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\nLater, when churches in different parts of the world began celebrating the birthday of Yeshua, they had various opinions as to the correct date. It was not until the<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>latter part of the fourth century <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">t<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">hat the Roman Church began observing December 25th.<br \/>\nBy the <\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>fifth century<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">, it was decreed that the birth of Jesus would be forever observed on this date, <\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>even though this was the day of the old Roman feast of the birth of Sol<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">, one of the names of the sun-god.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Mithraism, a large, pagan, sun worship cult fostered the celebration of December 25th as a holiday throughout the Roman and Greek worlds.\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">This winter festival was called\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">the nativity <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">the Nativity of the sun<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">.<br \/>\nThis type of cult even reached Israel. Semiramis, the Queen of Babylon, (also called the Queen of Heaven and Ishtar) contaminated the Israelite&#8217;s worship of God with Baal worship\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Jeremiah 7:18, 44:17).<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\nShe ordered the ancient world to celebrate the birth of her son Tammuz, who was apparently believed to be the sun god reincarnated.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>She set December 25th as the date of Baal&#8217;s birth on the advice of her astrologers, since the sun is at its farthest point from the earth during the winter solstice.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire and the women knead the dough and make cakes to offer to the Queen of Heaven.\u00a0 They pour out drink offerings to other gods to arouse my anger.<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>(Jeremiah 7:18)<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\nOver time, the sun god came to be worshiped all over the ancient world on December 25th. It was a time of orgies, drunkenness, and the sacrificing of infants to the pagan god, Baal.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Because this feast was so popular among the pagan population of Greece and Rome, the date was simply adopted as the time of the birth of Yeshua by the Roman Church.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/261268\/bbcab32b23ef56bfe2f26de2f51369fd\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" name=\"graphics3\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/> <span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #422104;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Although Christmas caroling today brings cheer to many Christians, in<br \/>\ntheir earliest beginnings, carols really had nothing to do with Christmas.<br \/>\nThe melodies were originally written to accompany an ancient dance form<br \/>\ncalled the c<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #422104;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><i>ircle dance a<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #422104;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">ssociated with fertility rites and pagan festivities.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #9e0f0f;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Gift-giving, Saturnalia and Violence Against the Jews<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Many customs associated with the season the giving of gifts, house-to-house caroling, and the general rejoicing and festivity derived from this winter festival of Saturnalia are a remnant of paganism <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">that has remained attached\u00a0 to the Christian Church.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Christians who first observed the birth of Jesus on December 25 did not do so thinking that he was born on that day. Because the pagan winter festival of <strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Saturnalia\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">was celebrated on that date in\u00a0 Rome, they were willing\u00a0 to have this pagan holiday metamorphosed into a Christian one.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Due to the pagan origin of Christmas and the violence and excess associated with it, the Puritans (<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>Christians from the Church of England<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><strong><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>) banned Christmas altogether. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0In\u00a0 Massachusetts,USA, its observance\u00a0 was illegal between 1659 and 1681.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Despite its association with paganism, Christmas was, and still is, celebrated\u00a0 by most Christians.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Rabbis and Orthodox Jewish anti-missionaries often use this information to\u00a0 confirm that Christianity is a pagan religion <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and that the story of the birth of Yeshua\u00a0 is inspired by the pagan festival celebrating the birth of the sun-god Sol.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">According to this logic, the rabbis state that <\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Yeshua couldn&#8217;t be the Jewish Messiah!<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/261268\/fb94d716620890869eb6fa268a92a279\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" name=\"graphics4\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/> <span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #4f3a06;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">This mosaic found in the\u00a0 Vatican grottoes under St. Peter&#8217;s Basilica,<br \/>\non the ceiling of the tomb of the Julii (Pope Julius I), represents<br \/>\nMessiah Yeshua (Jesus) as the sun-god Helios or Sol Invictus<br \/>\nriding in his\u00a0 chariot.\u00a0 It&#8217;s dated the 3rd century AD.<\/span><\/span><\/span><span Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Beside the ties to Saturnalia and Mithraism that discredit the celebration of Christmas,\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">violence against the Jews on Christmas understandably blackened the holiday among the Jewish People.<br \/>\nAccording to David Kertzer, in his book\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>The Popes Against the Jews: The Vatican&#8217;s Role in the Rise of Modern Anti-Semitism<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">, throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Jewish rabbis of the ghetto in Rome were forced to wear clownish outfits and march through the city streets to the jeers of the crowd, pelted by a variety of projectile objects as part of the Saturnalia carnival<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0(p. 74).<br \/>\nIn 1836, the Jewish community of Rome sent a petition to Pope Gregory XVI pleading with him to stop the annual Saturnalia abuse of the Jewish community, to which the Pope responded, <\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>It is not opportune to make any innovation.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And on December 25, 1881, riots broke out across Poland\u00a0 when Christian leaders incited the Polish masses into an anti-Semitic frenzy.<br \/>\nOn this Christmas Day, twelve Jews were brutally murdered in Warsaw, several others injured, and many Jewish women raped.\u00a0 Also, two million rubles of Jewish property was destroyed.<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #9e0f0f;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>The Origins of Christmas Customs<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\nThe season of Christmas can be a joyous time. Many Christians set up Christmas trees with beautiful lights, and as long as it brings joy to family and friends while keeping them focused on the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) and all the blessings from God, then that&#8217;s a blessing.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>However, one should know the history of traditions that they keep.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the custom of decorating a Christmas tree dates back only a few centuries, the principle behind it is ancient. Pagans had a custom of worshiping trees in the forest <em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Jeremiah 7:18)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">, or bringing them into their homes and decorating them, and this observance was adopted by the Christian Church.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Furthermore, sacred <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>trees as symbols of the life force <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>were also associated with Canaanite cults.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cylinder seals dating from the Late Bronze Age often show a worshiper standing in front of a tree.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/261268\/d8deb20cb6a7f13ca32fe566fb51f456\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" name=\"graphics5\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/> <span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #4f3a06;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\"><b>Bronze Age Megiddo\u00a0 site:<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #4f3a06;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #4f3a06;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Seals depicting sacred trees have been<br \/>\nfound at Megiddo\u00a0 and other archaeological sites in\u00a0 Israel.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Other seals dating from the 8th to the 10th centuries BC, which depict a tree\u00a0 flanked by worshipers, have been found at Lachish, Beth-shemesh, Gibeon,\u00a0 Samaria, and Megiddo archaeological sites in Israel.<br \/>\nA drawing of a sacred tree with lily flowers being eaten by two ibex was\u00a0 discovered on a jar at the religious center of Kuntillet Ajrud.\u00a0 \u00a0Gold pendants\u00a0 of the Late Bronze Age from Tell al-Ajjul (near Gaza) and from Ugarit show stylized trees growing out of a formalized goddess, according to\u00a0 <em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>The Harper Atlas of the Bible <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0(pgs.101-102).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sexual intercourse <strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>under these &#8220;holy&#8221; trees <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">was thought to transmit the\u00a0 potency and vitality of the goddess.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8220;They sacrifice on the mountaintops and burn offerings on the hills, <\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>under oak, poplar and terebinth trees<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">, where the shade is pleasant.\u00a0 Therefore your daughters turn to prostitution and your daughters-in-law to adultery.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Hosea 4:13)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/261268\/3d775dacca14fcfcc94d669d66198b38\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" name=\"graphics6\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/> <span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #4f3a06;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">Lashish archaeological site in\u00a0 Israel<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>These female deities could well have been the Asherah or Astarte who are often mentioned in the Jewish Scriptures (Tanakh\/Old Testament) as the consort of the weather god Baal.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8220;The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord; they forgot the Lord their God\u00a0 and served the Baals and the Asherahs.&#8221; <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Judges 3:7)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>In at least 10 Bible references, the\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #0b3014;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>&#8220;green tree&#8221; <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>is associated with idolatry\u00a0 and false worship.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8220;They also set up for themselves high places, sacred stones and Asherah poles\u00a0 on every high hill and under every spreading tree.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(1 Kings 14:23)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The use of holly and mistletoe comes from the Druid ceremonies.\u00a0 \u00a0Some\u00a0 historians think that the Druids used mistletoe to poison their human\u00a0 sacrificial victim.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Kissing under the mistletoe is a synthesis of Druid sacrificial rituals with Saturnalia sexual immorality.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Places of worship with sacred\u00a0 <em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>Christmas <\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">trees are frequently mentioned in the Bible and the prophet Jeremiah condemned their use:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0Do not learn the ways of the nations&#8230;\u00a0 For the customs of the peoples are\u00a0 worthless;\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold;\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter.<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><b>(Jeremiah 10:1-4)<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/261268\/5dc7ed9d9f91b14ff34d7ad75ba9a853\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" name=\"graphics7\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/> <span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #422104;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small;\">The custom of kissing under the mistletoe during<br \/>\nthe Christmas holidays has pagan origins.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #9e0f0f;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Christmas Today<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Look! The young maiden (also translated virgin) will conceive a child!\u00a0 She will give birth to a son, and they\u00a0 will call him Immanuel, which means God is with us. <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Matthew 1:23, see Isaiah 7:14)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>In light of these facts, some Messianic Jews and born-again Christians choose not to celebrate Christmas in any form whatsoever, while others continue to celebrate December 25th as Yeshua&#8217;s birthday.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>It is important to refrain from condemning those who choose to\u00a0 celebrate Christmas, as well as those who choose not to.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>What is truly important during this season, while people are confronted with the birth of the Messiah, is to spread the good news that Yeshua came as the Light of the World, not to condemn the world, but to save it.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8220;I am the light of the world.\u00a0 Whoever follows me will never walk in\u00a0 darkness, but will have the light of life.&#8221; <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(John 8:12)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that\u00a0 whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. <em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(John 3:16)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staticapp.icpsc.com\/icp\/loadimage.php\/mogile\/261268\/10a30cbb787ca3be9831de67dd7cbfb2\/image\/jpeg\" alt=\"\" name=\"graphics8\" align=\"BOTTOM\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #9e0f0f;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Redeeming the Time<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8220;Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.&#8221; <\/span><\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i>(Ephesians 5:16)<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Although the celebration of Christmas has pagan origins, <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">this time can be redeemed by doing special mitzvot (good deeds) to help those who are feeling isolated, lost or alone while others are celebrating with friends and family.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Its a fact that this time of the year is the hardest for many people who\u00a0 don&#8217;t have family or who are struggling.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #3a268a;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>We can be a light by bringing cheer, comfort, hope and support into the lives of friends, family, neighbors, and those less fortunate than ourselves.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This season is a good time to help single mothers, widows, or anyone who has fallen upon hard times.<\/p>\n<p>While it is true that many Christians celebrate pagan traditions in ignorance on one day of the year December 25th, our focus should be celebrating the Messiah&#8217;s birth and life everyday of the year because <strong><span style=\"color: #222222;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>Yeshua was born in prophetic fulfillment of the Hebrew Scriptures to redeem the world.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is right to celebrate our Creator and His Scriptures (The Word) and the\u00a0 Messiah (The Word that became flesh).<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #592902;\"><span style=\"font-family: Tahoma;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders.
